a life documentary film
Kim
From The Filmmaker-
One of the things I love most about this work is getting invited into people's homes and hearing the stories and moments that have happened there over the years.
Kim welcomed me into the same home where has she raised all five of her children. Sitting on a beautiful piece of Iowa countryside, it's a place that's seen decades of birthdays, holidays, family dinners, and everyday moments that become memories before you realize it.
One of my favorite parts of the day was seeing a wall upstairs covered in names and height marks. Not just her kids, but their friends, nieces, nephews, and now grandchildren too. It was one of those things that instantly tells the story of a family.
As we drove around her hometown, Kim showed me where she grew up, where her grandmother lived, and the school she attended as a child. I loved hearing how that same school would later welcome her own children and now some of her grandchildren.
What stood out most to me, though, was how she talked about her family. Kim has been through hard things, including losing her mom when she was still a young woman, but she never stayed focused on herself for long. The conversation always seemed to come back to her children, her grandchildren, and the people she loves.
The pride she has in her family was written all over her face, and It was a privilege to help tell a small part of her story.
