Helen was a little hesitant at first about having her stories filmed. Like so many people I meet, she wasn't quite sure about sitting down and talking about herself.  But she agreed to do it for her family, and I'm so glad she did.

​

I spent the day with Helen and her husband, Roger, in their home, hearing about her childhood growing up in Dubuque, Iowa in the late 1940s and 1950s and the years that followed. She showed me old photographs, including a special album she made for Roger years ago filled with photos of the two of them and their family through the years. I loved watching one photo lead to another memory and another story.

I was also struck by how close their family still is, even now that their children are grown with families of their own. It made me even happier that Helen decided to share these stories. Now her kids and grandkids have them told by her, in her own voice and her own way.

Thank you, to Helen for being so kind and welcoming me into your home, and to your family for asking me to capture it.  I hope you enjoy these stories for many years to come.
