a life documentary film

Savita

From the Filmmaker-
When I first arrived at Savita’s home in Illinois, she greeted me with such kindness (even though she was a little hesitant to be on camera). But as we settled in, she slowly opened up, and our time together became a warm, meaningful conversation about her life. We sat with her photo albums, flipped through decades of memories, and she even showed me the medal she earned for being the top woman in her pharmacy school class in Chandigarh, India! That moment alone revealed so much about her strength and determination.
Savita shared stories of growing up in India, becoming a pharmacist, raising her children, and the incredible week in 1980 when she met and married her husband (in ONE single week!).
It was easy to see why her daughter reached out... she wanted these memories preserved now, while her mom is healthy, vibrant, and full of stories only she can tell.
Filming Savita reminded me why I create life documentaries: to hold onto the sound of someone’s voice, their laughter, their history… the pieces families never want to lose. Her story is a beautiful example of an Indian-American family documentary, a heartfelt mother interview, and a grandmother’s life story captured for future generations.
Every story deserves to be captured while it’s still being lived, and Savita’s is one her
family will cherish for years to come.
